This Small Maori Carved Patu Club is an example of the traditional Maori patu, used mostly in pre-European times, since it became somewhat obsolete after the arrival of the Europeans and their guns.

This patu is made from sustainly harvested Tulip Wood, a light but very strong hardwood, and measures approximately 26cm (10 1/4') long. It has a rope cord, for it to be hung from the wrist.
The carving design on the patu is called ngutu kaka (beak of the kaka bird), and represents the spirit (wairua) of the bearer/owner.
Carved on front only.
Proudly made in New Zealand, and shipped worldwide.
